Locally – Spruce Pine is one of the best-kept secrets in the area. As a matter of fact, the town was voted One of the Coolest Small Towns Around by Romantic Asheville and Conde Nast’s Traveler magazine recently dubbed it “One of the Best Small Town Food Cities! What the town and area have to offer is often compared to Gatlinburg decades ago – authenticity – with a small town feel that’s super friendly with beautiful scenery and locally owned, family-run businesses, galleries and studios that are anything but touristy.

Charming Spruce Pine is divided by the South Toe River. This gem of a town is a known retreat for people living in Charlotte, Asheville, and Knoxville, TN. Just 15 minutes away from the house, the downtown area of the town is like a stop in time when things were a bit simpler.

Views in winter are amazing! Hiking the Roan or to waterfalls can be spectacular with almost no one else on the trail. However, in winter (usually mid-December through February or mid-March) some businesses keep different hours or even close, while others do creative things like popup restaurants and special winter openings. If you are concerned about what might be available please ask us. We’d be happy to assist you in deciding if visiting in the off-season would be a good fit.

Children are welcome. The house is a home – not a museum, so it can be a great place for families. We ask that parents be attentive, putting objects out of reach that may cause a problem or be damaged, putting delicate items are cords out of reach. A number of kid-friendly items such as a stroller, pack and play, highchair, etc. is available with advanced notice. View more

We like to make it easy, because traveling can be stressful. By providing the basics like herbs and spices, flour, sugar and cooking oil, plus all the kitchenware and appliances you’ll need, as well as things to help you relax, such as an assortment of teas, bath salts and infused bath oils our guests relax, get in vacation mode much faster and enjoy their stay more.

One the aspects of the house that sets it apart is all the attention to detail. From the complimentary bowl of chocolates and bath salts to the original artwork and craftsmanship, Conley House is not like any other vacation rental. Our guests often tell us that we thought of everything! We take pride in that, because we strive to make your stay something you will remember for years to come.

Conley House is clean, very private and has unobstructed views! It is located in a safe community of mostly studio artists and craftspeople. Being just 15 minutes to shopping, good restaurants and cafes, it is conveniently located, too. View more about Lisa Smith

My husband and I stayed at the Conley House for a 4 night getaway. We wanted a place where we could spread out, stay put, and truly unwind. This place was just what the doctor ordered. Her property provided enough seclusion that we didn’t see another soul, yet it is an easy drive to restaurants, shops, and a very good grocery store.

My favorites about the house had to be: #1 the incredible views…(The picture on the VRBO cover page is truly what you get from the patio.) #2 The quality and comfort of the actual home. You know how some rentals you go to feel kind of like a college dorm?…(cheap furniture, pots and pans, etc)? Not the Conley House. Everything in this place was excellent and as comfortable as I would want my own home to be, including the well-stocked kitchen, spa-worthy tub, comfortable beds, etc. #3 She allowed us to bring our fur baby. We all got to relax in style!

Lisa was very accommodating and gave us the privacy we came for, but checked in via email to make sure we were well-taken care of. She even had a guy come by to see if the drive-way needed clearing when it snowed. We will absolutely be back and would recommend this place to couples, friends and families.

We had the best time at The Conley House for our Christmas vacation. The hosts have thought of everything. The cabin is filled with little details making it even more accommodating and relaxing. The yard was perfect for dogs and our Annabelle turned into a snow dog during the trip. We had almost 14 inches of snow during our stay, making the views even more magical. The host took customer service to a new level by touching base to ensure we felt comfortable with driving in the snowy conditions, even had someone plow the drive for us to allow ease of travel. Luckily, we had 4WD to make manipulating the terrain easier. On the last morning of our trip, we had some unexpected visitors as two does and a giant buck made their way through the mountain snow right behind the cabin, a beautiful sight.

We checked out the charming town of Spruce Pine. We also visited the Biltmore Estate during our stay, only an hour drive from the cabin. We also day-tripped through Linville and on to Banner Elk, a mountain ski town with great shops and dining. Note: In Linville, stop in at the Linville River Mercantile for coffee, cider, hospitality and desserts to die for.

The nearest full service grocery store, Ingles Market, is just 15 minutes away in Spruce Pine. This store also sells beer wine. Spirits are available at ABC stores in the state of North Carolina. A river runs right through Spruce Pine, making a convenient and fun day of all sorts of water fun! The region is chockfull of blues, bluegrass and other music festivals, plus an annual gem mineral show. Every September sees the launch of a new ASAP (Appalachia Sustainable Agriculture Project) Farm Tour that features farms all over the region where participants can learn about farming, tour the farm, meet the farmers and even buy their produce and products. The locals are very friendly and helpful. We like to spend time in the mountains, in Asheville (Salsas Restaurant, Discount Shoe Warehouse, and The Blue Spiral are not to be missed), and exploring the shops and galleries in the smaller towns like Bakersville (In Tandem Gallery and Mica Gallery), Burnesville (Crimson Laurel Gallery at Micaville exchange and Carriage House shops) and Spruce Pine‘s antique shops, restaurants and the like. Spruce Pine is a ‘wet’ town, offering beer, wine, and spirits locally. Grocery stores can sell beer and wine, ABC stores sell liquor. Sunday sales are made after 12:00 pm Noon.
